We originally scheduled the announcement for 1st April but figured you wouldn't take us quite seriously.
Yes, we're becoming Metaforms AI. Why?
We started off as a generativeAI-native company. While the LLMs were super exciting, the use cases weren't super clear beyond copy generation for text-based applications. Github Copilot is arguably the only high-impact successful consumer product born out of the now 2-yearold tech.
Our methodology of figuring out where genAI would have the maximum delta has been to work closely with large companies like Urban Company, Porter, Mosaic Wellness etc and to measure if we can make significant impact on metrics that matter. WorkHack was a versatile name and helped us do Support, Customer Engagement, Cart Abandonment, Order Creation etc use cases without worrying too much about branding.
We waited to find the right combination of large market, sleepy incumbents, critical business value and genAI differentiator to narrow down what we'd want to focus on. And for us that function turned out to be Data Collection.
Ofc, Hack in the name of a brand dealing with sensitive data isn't very useful. And increasingly, we realised going after solid, respectable brands like Typeform, Survey Monkey and Qualtrics meant we will have to build organic growth loops and solve for discovery.
But why Metaforms?
We think Forms are due an important AI upgrade. And no, we don't mean a Form generator powred by chatGPT. But fundamentally how data is collected and processed.
No matter who generates the form—the static questions fail to capture the complexity of how users feel or what they're actually trying to communciate. There are too many assumptions you've to make about Job-to-be-done while building a form. Let's say—
If you are a CX Managers, the main task is just to know "Why our customers hate our service?"
If you're a Course Manager, you want to find out "Is the course useful at all?"
Or if you're a Researcher, let's say you're just asking "Do customers actually want gluten-free lunch?"
Standard surveys, Likert scales, Star rating etc evolved to facililate gathering data at scale in context of limited human-processing capabilities. Nobody wants or can to read a million conversations to figure out what's not working. Though the problem is—
The users hate filling up these forms and surveys. I've never met a happy man who looks forward to one.
You don't learn a lot beyond what you already assumed or knew when framing these questions.
In other words, today's data collection tools don't help you listen or discover what your users are truly feeling or want. It's a massive facade of customer-centricity and guesswork!
That's where we think AI can make a great difference. Now it's possible to ask more relevant, custom phrased questions along with interesting followups to dig deeper into what matters to a single user during the filling up experience.
That's why we're building Metaforms AI—Forms to get Life-Changing Insights.
We want to be the Typeform ($100 mil), SurveyMonkey ($300 mil) and Qualtrics ($1 bil) for AI-literate businesses who want to get more insights and make better decisions. One day at a time.
I couldn't be more thrilled with our new mission and purpose to build a great product for the world out of BLR and SF.
